WesternMassSoccer.com retired its server-side database. Ratings, favorites, poll votes, trivia answers, field reports, game scores, and chat conversations now live only in your own browser (localStorage) and never leave your device. Where sections below describe database storage of those features, they are kept for historical transparency; the current behavior is browser-only. Contact and advertising form submissions are delivered to us by email and are not stored in any database. Google Analytics and the Reddit Pixel described below still apply.

1. Introduction & Who We Are
WesternMassSoccer.com ("we," "us," "our," or "the Site") is operated by Clifton Digital Media, an independent web publishing business based in Massachusetts. We operate a free, publicly accessible online directory dedicated to soccer in Western Massachusetts, covering youth clubs, recreational and travel leagues, high school varsity and junior-varsity programs, indoor and outdoor playing facilities, coaches, training camps, tryouts, and related soccer resources across Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire counties.
This Privacy Policy is written to be comprehensive and specific. We have deliberately written it to disclose everything — including the technical implementation details of every piece of data we collect, every browser storage key we write to, every Supabase database table we insert rows into, and every third-party service we transmit data to. You deserve to know exactly what happens to data associated with your visit. There are no hidden data practices, no undisclosed data brokers, and no secret marketing databases.

We do not sell, share, or export any user data to any third party for advertising or any other commercial purpose. All data collected on this site stays on our servers. Advertisers purchase ad placements on our site — they never receive any user-level data. We use a consent-based approach: analytics tracking only runs after you explicitly opt in via our privacy banner.
By visiting or using WesternMassSoccer.com, you acknowledge that you have read this Policy and agree to its practices. If you do not agree, please stop using the Site.
2. Scope of This Policy
This Policy applies to all data collected through westernmasssoccer.com and any subdomains we operate. It covers all visitors regardless of jurisdiction. We have included jurisdiction-specific disclosures in Sections 30 and 31 for California and Massachusetts residents.
This Policy does not apply to third-party websites that we link to (club websites, league sites, MaxPreps, school district pages, etc.). Those sites operate under their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
3. Complete Data Collection Overview - The Short Version
Before we go into exhaustive detail in the sections below, here is a plain-English summary of everything we collect or store in connection with your visit:
- One anonymous device identifier — a randomly generated string stored in your browser's local storage. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, IP address, or any other identifying information. It is used exclusively to prevent duplicate submissions (e.g., rating the same club twice, voting in the same poll twice).
- Your recent searches — stored only in your own browser's local storage. We never receive this data. It never leaves your browser.
- Your chat conversation history — stored in your browser's session storage for the duration of your browser tab session. The text of your messages is also sent to our database for administrative review. See Section 10.
- Every search query you type and submit — the text of your searches is logged to our database when you execute a completed search. No device identifier or IP address is attached to these logs.
- Ad impressions and clicks — if a paid advertisement is displayed on a page you visit, we record that it was shown. If you click an ad, that click is also recorded.
- Star ratings you submit — stored in our database, linked to your anonymous device identifier.
- Shoutouts you post — stored in our database, including the author name you provide and your message text. Publicly displayed.
- Field condition reports — stored in our database, linked to your anonymous device identifier.
- Poll votes — stored in our database, linked to your anonymous device identifier.
- Trivia answers — stored in our database, linked to your anonymous device identifier.
- Game high scores — if you submit a score after playing Stadium Striker, it is stored in our database with the initials, score, and school name you entered. Publicly displayed on the leaderboard.
- Contact form submissions — stored in our database, including your name, email address, and message.
- Advertise / sponsorship inquiry submissions — stored in our database, including your name, email, business name, and message.
- Google Analytics 4 page view events — your page path and page title are sent to Google on every page navigation. Google's own privacy policy governs what they do with this data.
- Google Maps embed requests — when pages with maps load, your browser connects to Google's servers. Google may receive your IP address.
4. Anonymous Device Identifier
We assign your browser a randomly generated anonymous identifier (a "device ID") and store it in your browser's local storage. This identifier is generated entirely at random; it contains no personal information whatsoever — not your name, email address, IP address, location, or any other identifying details. It cannot be used to identify you as an individual.
What it Does Not Contain
The device ID is a random string with no inherent meaning. It is not linked to your Google account, social media profiles, or any other external data source. If you clear your browser's local storage, a new device ID will be generated automatically the next time you interact with a feature that requires one.
What it is Used For
The device ID's sole purpose is deduplication — preventing you from submitting the same data point more than once from the same browser. Specifically:
- Preventing duplicate star ratings (you may rate each entity once; re-rating updates your previous score)
- Preventing duplicate poll votes (one vote per poll per browser)
- Preventing duplicate field condition reports (one report per field per browser at a time)
- Associating ad impressions and clicks with a consistent browser session for aggregate analytics
- Remembering which daily trivia questions you have already answered
Where it is Sent
The device ID is transmitted to our database host (Supabase, Inc.) when you submit ratings, poll votes, field condition reports, ad event interactions, or trivia answers. It is never sent to Google, advertising networks, data brokers, or any third party other than our database host.
5. Persistent Browser Storage
Your browser's local storage persists indefinitely until you clear it. We use local storage to store the following categories of data:
- Your anonymous device identifier — a randomly generated string used solely for deduplication of votes, ratings, and ad events. This value is sent to our database host when you interact with features that require it (ratings, polls, field reports, trivia, ad tracking). It is never sent to any other third party.
- Your recent search history — a short list of your recent search queries, stored solely to display your search history inside the search interface. This data never leaves your browser and is never transmitted to our servers.
We do not write any other data to your browser's local storage. We do not read data belonging to other websites or services.
6. Session Browser Storage
We also use your browser's session storage, which is erased automatically when you close the browser tab. We use session storage to store the following:
- Chat session history — the message history from your current chat session is stored so that the chat interface can restore it as you navigate between pages without closing the tab. The message text itself is also sent to our database host as described in Section 10.
- Chat session identifier — a randomly generated anonymous identifier that groups your chat messages from the current tab session together in our records. This identifier is not linked to your device ID or any personal identity. A new one is generated each time you open a new browser tab or clear the chat.
Both items are automatically erased when you close the browser tab. Neither contains personal information beyond the message content you type into the chat yourself.
7. Database Records - What We Store and Why
Our database is hosted by Supabase, Inc. (a U.S.-based company). Supabase stores data on servers operated by Amazon Web Services in the United States. The following categories of user-generated data are stored in our database. No personally identifiable information (name, email, phone number, or address) is collected unless you explicitly provide it.
7.1 - Ad Interaction Records
When a paid advertisement is displayed on a page you visit, we record that the impression occurred. When you click a paid advertisement, we record that a click occurred. For each event we record: which advertisement was involved, whether it was an impression or a click, which page you were on, and your anonymous device identifier. This data is used to generate performance reports for advertisers. It is never sold to third parties or used to build behavioral advertising profiles.
7.2 - Star Ratings
When you submit a star rating, we record: which type of entity you rated (club, field, school, or college), which specific entity you rated, your numerical rating (1–5), and your anonymous device identifier. No personal name or email is stored with your rating. Only one rating per entity per browser is stored; re-rating updates your previous score.
7.3 - Shoutouts
When you post a shoutout, we permanently record: the name you enter, your message text, which entity page you posted on, and the date and time of posting. Shoutouts are publicly displayed on the entity page where they are posted. No anonymous device identifier is stored with shoutouts. Do not include sensitive personal information in a shoutout.
7.4 - Field Condition Reports
When you submit a field condition report, we record: which field you reported, the condition you selected (e.g., Open, Closed, Unknown), your anonymous device identifier, and the date and time of the report. No personal name or email is associated with field reports.
7.5 - Poll Votes
When you vote in a community poll, we record: which poll you voted in, which option you selected, your anonymous device identifier, and the date and time of the vote. One vote per poll per browser is enforced; re-voting is not permitted.
7.6 - Daily Trivia Answers
When you answer questions in the Daily Soccer Trivia feature, we record: your anonymous device identifier, the date of the quiz, each question you answered and the answer you chose, and whether your answer was correct. This is stored to prevent re-taking the same day's quiz and to generate aggregate correctness statistics. No personal identity is attached to trivia answer records.
7.7 - Game High Scores
If you choose to submit your score to the public leaderboard after completing a Stadium Striker game, we permanently record: the initials you enter (up to 3 characters), your numerical score, the Western Mass high school you select (optional), the associated school mascot (auto-populated, optional), and the color of the kit you customized in-game. High scores are publicly displayed on the leaderboard. Score submission is entirely voluntary and occurs only when you click "Submit Score" — the game does not submit data automatically.
7.8 - Search Queries
When you submit a completed search, we record: the text of your search query and whether it originated from the search bar or the full search results page. No device identifier is stored with search logs — we intentionally do not link search queries to any individual browser or device. Search logs are used to understand visitor demand and improve our directory coverage.
7.9 - Chat Messages
Every message you send to the WMS Chat Assistant and every response the assistant provides is logged to our database. For each message we record: an anonymous session identifier (a random string that groups messages from your current browser tab, erased when you close the tab), whether the message was sent by you or the assistant, the full text of the message, and the URL of the page you were on. Chat logs are accessible only to Site administrators. The session identifier is not linked to your device identifier, IP address, or any personal identity.
7.10 - Contact Form Submissions
When you submit the contact form at /contact, we record: your full name, email address, your self-identified role (e.g., Player, Coach, Parent, Club Director), and your message. Contact submissions are accessible only to Site administrators. Your email address is used only to respond to your inquiry. We do not add your email to any marketing list.
7.11 - Advertising Inquiry Submissions
When you submit the advertising inquiry form at /advertise, we record: your name, email address, your business name, your website (if provided), a description of your products or services, your estimated advertising budget (if provided), and your message. Advertising inquiry submissions are accessible only to Site administrators. Your information is used solely to evaluate and respond to your advertising inquiry.
8. Ad Impression & Click Tracking
When you load a page that contains a paid advertisement, we automatically record that the ad was displayed (an "impression"). This happens without any action required from you.
If you click on a paid advertisement, we record that a click occurred and then redirect you to the advertiser's website. We do not track what you do on the advertiser's website; that is governed by their own privacy policy.
Ad impression and click data is used exclusively to generate performance reports for our advertisers (showing how many times their ad was displayed and clicked). This data is never shared with advertising networks, data brokers, or any party other than the advertiser whose ad generated the event.
9. Search Query Logging - What Gets Logged and When
Search queries are logged when you submit a completed search. This occurs in two places:
- Global Search Dialog: When you press Enter or explicitly select "See all results for [query]" in the search dialog.
- Full Search Results Page (/search): When you submit a search from the full search results page.
Typing in the search box does NOT log your query. Only a completed search submission is logged. Autocomplete suggestions displayed while you type are generated entirely in your browser and are never transmitted to our servers.
10. Chat Message Logging - Complete Transparency
We want to be completely transparent about chat logging because it is the most sensitive data collection on this Site. Every message you type in the WMS Chat Assistant and every response the bot sends are stored in our Supabase database.
What this means in practice: If you ask the chat assistant "are there any clubs near Westfield for 10-year-olds?" — that exact text is stored, associated with a random session ID, and visible to our Site administrators.
What it does NOT mean: The session ID stored with chat logs is a random string with no connection to your identity, IP address, or device ID. We cannot identify who sent any given message. We can only see the text of the message and what page the user was on. We do not sell, share, or use chat messages for any purpose beyond improving the chat assistant and monitoring for abuse.
If you do not want your chat messages logged: Do not use the chat assistant. The chat widget is the only feature on the Site that logs message content.
11. Star Ratings
Star ratings (1–5 stars) are available on club, field, high school, and college detail pages. Ratings are aggregated and displayed publicly as an average score. Your individual rating is not displayed separately and is not linked to your name. The only persistent link to your rating is your anonymous device ID, which allows you to see your own previously submitted rating when you return to a page.
12. Shoutouts - Public by Design
Shoutouts are short public messages that you can post on entity detail pages. They are displayed publicly below the entity's listing. When you submit a shoutout:
- The name you provide and your message are immediately publicly visible on the Site
- The shoutout is stored permanently in our database (until an admin removes it)
- Your device ID is NOT stored with shoutouts
- We have no technical way to link a submitted shoutout back to your device after submission
Do not post personally identifying information (your email, phone number, home address) in a shoutout, as it will be publicly visible. We will remove shoutouts that violate these guidelines upon request.
13. Field Condition Reports
Field condition reports allow you to report whether a playing field is currently open, closed, or in unknown condition. Reports are displayed publicly on field detail pages. Your device ID is stored with your report to prevent duplicate simultaneous reports. Field reports are considered ephemeral — they represent current conditions and are less meaningful over time.
14. Poll Votes
Community polls are displayed sitewide. Your vote (the option text you selected) is stored with your device ID to prevent double-voting. Poll results are displayed publicly. The distribution of votes (e.g., "42% voted for Option A, 58% voted for Option B") is visible to all visitors. Individual votes are not publicly attributed to any name or device.
15. Daily Soccer Trivia Answers
The Daily Soccer Trivia feature presents a 10-question quiz about Western Mass soccer history. Your answers (correct and incorrect) are stored alongside the full question and answer text for each question. This data is used to prevent you from taking the same day's quiz twice and to track aggregate correctness statistics. All data is linked to your anonymous device ID only — no personal identity is involved.
16. Game High Scores (Stadium Striker)
Stadium Striker is a browser-based penalty shootout game. High scores are stored only if you explicitly click the "Submit Score" button after a game ends and type your initials. The game does not automatically transmit anything — all game logic runs entirely in your browser until you choose to submit. Submitted high scores (initials, score, school, kit color) are publicly displayed on the leaderboard page at /game.
17. Contact Form Submissions
The contact form at /contact collects your name, email address, self-identified audience category, and message. This information is stored in our Supabase database and is accessible only to Site administrators. We use it exclusively to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list. We will not contact you after replying to your message unless you initiate further correspondence.
18. Advertising / Sponsorship Inquiry Submissions
The advertising inquiry form at /advertise collects business contact information for the purpose of following up with potential advertisers. This information is used only to evaluate and respond to advertising inquiries. We do not share advertising inquiry data with third parties.
19. Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the Site in aggregate. Google Analytics is operated by Google LLC.
What We Send to Google
Our code sends a page_view event to Google on every page navigation. Each event includes the page path (e.g., /clubs/agawam-soccer) and the page title. We do not send custom events, user properties, demographic information, or any personally identifying data to Google Analytics.
What Google Collects Independently
When the Google Analytics script executes in your browser, Google independently collects additional information including your IP address (used to estimate location), browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and a Google-generated client ID stored in a first-party cookie (_ga, _ga_XXXXXXXXXX). Google's collection and use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy, which can be reviewed at policies.google.com/privacy.
IP Anonymization
GA4 anonymizes IP addresses by default — Google truncates the last octet of visitor IP addresses before storing them. We have not enabled any GA4 features beyond the default page_view event.
How to Opt Out of Google Analytics
You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You can also use browser privacy modes, ad blockers, or tracking protection features in modern browsers to prevent GA from loading.
20. Google Maps Embeds
Several pages on the Site embed Google Maps to display field locations, including the Master Map view on the homepage and individual field detail pages. When these pages load, your browser makes a direct connection to Google's servers to retrieve map tiles and data. Google may receive your IP address and browser information as a result of this connection. The Google Maps embed is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
21. Server & Hosting Logs
Our hosting provider and CDN automatically log HTTP requests to our servers. These logs include your IP address, the date and time of the request, the URL requested, the HTTP status code returned, the size of the response, the referring URL, and your browser's User-Agent string. Server logs are used for security monitoring, debugging, and abuse detection. We do not systematically mine server logs for marketing or advertising purposes. Log data is retained according to our hosting provider's data retention policies.
23. Third-Party Links & Embedded Content
The Site contains links to external websites including club websites, league registration pages, MaxPreps, MassLive, school district websites, and others. Clicking these links takes you off our Site. We are not responsible for the content, availability, or data practices of any external website. Review the privacy policy of any external site before providing personal information to that site.
24. Advertising & Sponsor Disclosures
WesternMassSoccer.com displays paid advertising and sponsorships. Advertisers pay us to place their business in front of our visitors. We use the data described in Section 8 (ad event tracking) to generate performance reports for these advertisers. We do not share any personal data about individual visitors with advertisers. Advertisers receive only aggregate statistics (total impressions, total clicks, CTR percentages).
All paid placements are labeled as "Sponsored." Our editorial content, directory listings, ratings, and articles are not influenced by advertising relationships. We reserve the right to display contextually relevant advertising on any page. Organizations listed in our directory have no control over and are not parties to any advertising agreement on this Site. A business advertising alongside a club's or school's listing does not imply any relationship between the advertiser and that organization.
25. How We Use All Collected Data
We use the data we collect for the following specific purposes:
- Operating the Site: Rendering pages, displaying content, serving search results
- Deduplication: Preventing duplicate ratings, votes, and field reports via device ID
- Community features: Displaying star ratings, shoutouts, field status, and poll results
- Game leaderboard: Displaying publicly submitted high scores
- Chat assistant improvement: Reviewing logged chat conversations to identify common questions and improve bot responses
- Search improvement: Analyzing logged search queries to identify gaps in our directory content
- Advertising reporting: Providing impression and click statistics to our advertisers
- Responding to inquiries: Using contact form and advertise form submissions to reply to messages
- Security and abuse detection: Using server logs to identify and block malicious traffic
- Site analytics: Using Google Analytics data to understand overall traffic patterns and improve the Site
We do not use collected data to build individual user profiles, target advertising to individuals, sell data to third parties, or engage in any form of behavioral advertising.

28. Data Security
All data transmission between your browser and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. All data transmission between our JavaScript code and Supabase uses HTTPS. Our Supabase database is protected by row-level security (RLS) policies that restrict which operations anonymous visitors can perform. The admin interface is protected by password authentication. Ad images are stored in a Supabase Storage bucket with access controls.
No internet transmission or electronic storage system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach affecting personal data, we will take appropriate steps to notify affected parties as required by applicable law.
29. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
WesternMassSoccer.com is a publicly accessible sports directory and is not directed specifically at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The only personal data we collect voluntarily (contact forms, shoutout names, game initials) requires the user to type that data themselves.
However, because our Site discusses youth soccer programs, we recognize that minors may visit. We do not require registration or account creation, do not collect demographics, and do not display behavioral advertising. If a parent or guardian believes their child has provided personal information through a form submission (shoutout name, game initials, contact form), please contact us and we will promptly review and delete that information.
30. California Residents - CCPA/CPRA Rights
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the following rights regarding their personal information:
Right to Know
You have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the purposes for which we use it, and with whom we share it. This entire Privacy Policy is our disclosure. Specifically, we collect identifiers (anonymous device IDs, chat session IDs), usage data (page views, search queries, ad interactions), and voluntarily submitted data (contact form submissions, shoutout text, game initials, ratings, votes).
Right to Delete
You have the right to request deletion of personal information we have collected from you. Because most data we collect is anonymous (linked only to a device ID, not your name or email), it is not technically possible for us to identify "your" data in most of our database tables. For identified data (contact form submissions, advertise submissions, shoutouts with your name), you may request deletion by contacting us. We will comply within 45 days as required by law.
Right to Opt Out of Sale of Personal Information
We do not sell personal information. We do not sell, rent, lease, or otherwise transfer personal information to third parties for their commercial purposes.
Right to Non-Discrimination
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any CCPA/CPRA rights. Exercising your privacy rights will not result in any reduced quality of service, as our Site is entirely free to use and has no premium tiers.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the contact form. Please describe your request in detail. We will respond within 45 days.
31. Massachusetts Residents
Under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 93H (the Massachusetts Data Security Law), we are required to take reasonable steps to protect personal information we store. The personal information we store (contact form submissions, advertise inquiry submissions) is protected by HTTPS encryption in transit and access controls at rest.
Massachusetts residents whose personal information has been compromised in a security breach have the right to receive notification as required by M.G.L. c. 93H.
32. Your Rights & How to Exercise Them
Regardless of your jurisdiction, you can exercise the following rights:
- Delete your browser-stored data: Clear your browser's localStorage and sessionStorage at any time through your browser settings. This removes your device ID, recent searches, and chat session history.
- Remove a shoutout you posted: Contact us with the text of your shoutout and the page it appears on. We will remove it promptly.
- Request deletion of a contact form submission:Contact us and reference your original submission.
- Request removal of game high score: Contact us with your initials, school, and approximate score.
- Opt out of Google Analytics: Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Extension or use a content blocker.
- Request a copy of identified data: If you have submitted a contact form or advertise inquiry, we can provide you with a copy of your submission upon request.
33. Opting Out of Tracking - Specific Instructions
Use the Consent Banner
When you first visit our site, a privacy consent banner appears asking you to choose between "Accept All" (enables analytics tracking) and "Essential Only" (disables all analytics). You can change your choice at any time by clicking "Manage Privacy" in the site footer. If you choose "Essential Only," no page views, ad events, search queries, or Google Analytics data will be collected.
Global Privacy Control (GPC)
We detect and respect the Global Privacy Control signal in your browser. If GPC is enabled, analytics tracking is automatically disabled regardless of any other setting. This is legally required in California, Colorado, and Connecticut.
Opt Out of Google Analytics

Prevent Anonymous Device ID Creation
Use your browser in Private/Incognito mode. In private mode, localStorage is isolated per session and cleared when you close the window. This means a new device ID is generated each private session, effectively preventing long-term deduplication against your browser.
Disable Chat Logging
Simply do not use the chat assistant. The chat widget launches from the green button in the bottom-right corner. If you do not click it, no chat data is collected.
Prevent Search Logging
Avoid submitting searches — the search box is available but pressing Enter or clicking "See all results" triggers logging. Typing in the search box without submitting does not log anything.
34. Download & Delete Your Data
You have the right to download or delete all data we have associated with your anonymous device identifier. Because we use anonymous device IDs (not accounts), these actions apply to the data linked to the device ID stored in your current browser.
"Download" exports all data tied to your device ID as a JSON file. "Delete" permanently removes all your data from our database and clears your device ID from this browser.
